Postdoctoral Fellow (m/f/d): The influence of warmth on the immune system

The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the University of Basel is an Academic Drug Discovery & Development Center, which comprehensively covers academic drug research throughout pre-clinical and clinical research phases.

The Translational Complementary Medicine group at the Department is searching for a highly motivated 100% Postdoctoral Fellow with excellent background in cell biology and immunology.

Your position
The influence of warmth on the immune system- Life and warmth are interconnected: human beings are creatures of warmth, and a disturbance in temperature can have a major impact on the well-being of the affected person. For this reason, the warmth parameter plays a decisive role in many complementary therapy concepts geared toward rebalancing this system and restoring health. We systematically will investigate the effects of warmth on the parameters of activity, function, and metabolism among different immune cells. Looking at the interior of the human body, researchers have described its different 'compartments' as having different temperature ranges. For this reason, we will undertake the described experiments to assess whether these respective body niches influence the imprinting of immune cells and thus affect immune-cell differentiation. The place of work is Basel.

Your profile
We are looking for excellent candidates with a PhD degree in Pharmacy, Biology, Biochemistry or related topics and strong interest in the field of complementary medicine, especially phytotherapy and anthroposophical medicine. Applicants should have an excellent background in advanced cellular and immunological methods [min. 3 years' experience in flow cytometry assaying, measurements (optimal on CytoFlex/Beckman Coulter) and analysis (FlowJo, Kaluza)] and have strong track record of publications. Fluency in German and English is required.

We offer you
The successful and open-minded candidate will join and develop a newly established and dynamic research group that investigates complementary medical therapeutic concepts and studies the mode of action of herbal remedies and the impact of various extraction and production techniques on their in vitro and in vivo effects.
The initial contract will be for two years with the possibility of extension.

Application / Contact
We are looking forward to receiving your online application with the following documents: brief personal motivation letter, up-to-date CV including relevant publications and two references.
